Restaurant AI Leaves the Pilot Lane: Savor Names 65 Finalists for the Savor AI 50
From Taco Bell's voice AI drive-thrus to crew copilots at Starbucks, Burger King and Chipotle, the 2026 Restaurant AI Awards spotlight the AI that is actually working in restaurants. Winners revealed December 1.
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — October 30, 2026 — Restaurant AI is moving from pilot programs to everyday operations, and the Savor AI 50 finalists show where. Savor today named 65 finalists across 12 categories for the Savor AI 50: The 2026 Restaurant AI Awards. Produced by SavorAI, the awards recognize brands, operators and technology suppliers with proven deployments rather than pitch-deck promises. The awards are not pay-to-win: finalists were selected independently from public signals such as real restaurant deployments, disclosed results and trade coverage, with no sponsor influence.

Story angles for editors
- Voice AI hits the drive-thru at scale. Taco Bell has voice AI in roughly 900 drive-thrus, and Bojangles is taking it system-wide. Voice suppliers Google Cloud, Hi Auto, Omilia, Presto and SoundHound AI are all finalists.
- AI copilots for crews. The next wave is behind the counter: Starbucks' Green Dot Assist, Burger King's Patty and Chipotle's Ava Cado help employees rather than replace them.
- Guest acceptance is the gate. Not every test sticks. McDonald's ended its IBM drive-thru test, Del Taco ended Presto and Dave's Hot Chicken dropped its voice test.
- Kitchen robotics moves past pilots. Hyphen, Middleby, Miso Robotics, Next Robot and Richtech Robotics are finalists for AI cooking, prep and back-of-house robotics.
- The deal market is back. Olo was taken private for about $2.0 billion, and DoorDash bought SevenRooms for $1.2 billion.

"Restaurants have spent three years piloting AI. The Savor AI 50 finalists are the ones who moved past the pilot and can show it working in real restaurants, with real guests and real results. Savor has been building our AI analysis engine for the past three years, so we know what working AI looks like. That is the bar, and these 65 companies cleared it," said Paul Barron, founder of Savor.
Category winners and runners-up will be revealed December 1, 2026, on Savor.fm, Fast Casual Nation and the Paul Barron Podcast.
Interviews available: Paul Barron is available to discuss the finalists, where restaurant AI is working and where it is stalling, and what operators should watch in 2027.
Assets available: The full finalist list, category descriptions, Savor AI 50 logo and finalist badge artwork, and a headshot of Paul Barron are available on request.
