The restaurant brands with the most impactful AI strategies of 2026 aren't running pilots. They're running systems.
The bottom line: In 2026, AI in restaurants stopped being a press release and became an operating decision. The 10 Best Brand AI finalists in the Savor AI 50: The 2026 Restaurant AI Awards are the operators who picked a real problem, whether labor, speed, accuracy, hiring or upsell, and put AI to work on it across real restaurants. Winners are revealed Dec. 1.
The problem AI is solving for operators
Restaurants have the same three problems they've always had, just sharper. Labor is expensive and hard to keep. Guests expect speed and accuracy at every channel. And margins leave no room for wasted food or missed orders.
Savor AI 50 research tracked 77 restaurant brands with sourced AI deployments. Voice ordering is the most common use, with 39 of those brands using AI to take drive-thru or phone orders. Guest data, feedback and personalization came next at 23, then forecasting, prep and labor at 19.
The bigger shift is where AI is going next: behind the counter. The leaders are giving crews AI assistants, AI-driven kitchens and AI hiring tools, not just a new voice at the speaker post.
And guest acceptance is still the gate. McDonald's ended its IBM drive-thru test, and Del Taco dropped its system. The brands on this list earned their spot by scaling what works and pulling back where guests pushed back.
I've watched every major restaurant tech cycle since I coined "fast casual," and this one is different in one way: the winners aren't the brands with the flashiest demo. They're the brands that wired AI into how the restaurant actually runs.
The 10 Best Brand AI finalists
Finalists are listed alphabetically. No order or ranking is implied.
Bojangles
Bojangles is taking its AI drive-thru order taker, Bo-Linda, built with Hi Auto, from nearly 500 locations to its entire 890-plus-unit system. According to the companies, Bo-Linda handles more than 1 million orders a week with a 98% success rate.
Burger King
Burger King is putting AI in the headset. Its BK Assistant platform includes "Patty," a voice AI built on an OpenAI base that helps crews with prep questions, flags out-of-stock items for removal from digital menus and analyzes drive-thru audio for coaching. Patty is being piloted in 500 restaurants, and BK Assistant is slated for all U.S. restaurants by the end of 2026.
Chipotle
Chipotle's AI recruiting assistant, Ava Cado, has changed how the brand hires. Chipotle cut the time from application to start date from 12 days to four and raised application completion from 50% to 85%, while doubling the applications it receives.
Donatos Pizza
Donatos rolled out Revmo's voice AI for phone orders across all 174 of its restaurants in mid-2025. In the first three months, it handled 301,388 calls with a 71% order conversion rate, versus a 58% prior benchmark, and 99.9% accuracy.
Kura Sushi
Kura Sushi pairs its tech-driven conveyor model with front-of-house robots. The chain runs 116 active KettyBots across more than 60 U.S. locations, logging more than 4,000 robot work-hours a month, according to its robotics partner.
Starbucks
Starbucks built Green Dot Assist, a generative AI tool on Microsoft's Azure OpenAI platform, to help baristas look up drink recipes, troubleshoot equipment and figure out where to put staff during a rush. It's part of the tech overhaul behind the brand's first U.S. transaction growth in two years.
Taco Bell
Taco Bell is one of the biggest voice AI deployments in the industry. Yum Brands has processed more than 2 million drive-thru orders through its AI voice ordering system across more than 300 Taco Bell locations, and it's expanding the technology through its collaboration with Nvidia.
Texas de Brazil
Texas de Brazil put Slang AI on its reservation lines nationwide. In six months, the voice AI handled 269,447 calls and booked 13,290 reservations, with a 96% caller satisfaction score.
Urbane Cafe
Urbane Cafe proves AI isn't just a big-chain play. Its guest-first kiosks from Bite, which use AI upsell, drove a 22% lift in check average across 16 locations.
Wingstop
Wingstop shipped its AI Smart Kitchen to every domestic restaurant in about 10 months. The system forecasts demand in 15-minute increments using more than 300 variables per store, and peak speed of service now holds under 16 minutes, down from more than 30.
What this category tells us
Three things stand out across the Best Brand AI field.
AI is becoming crew infrastructure. Burger King, Chipotle and Starbucks are using AI to make the people in the restaurant faster and better, not to replace the guest interaction.
The phone and the drive-thru are the proving ground. Bojangles, Donatos, Taco Bell and Texas de Brazil show what voice AI looks like when it works at scale: measurable accuracy, conversion and calls handled.
Size isn't the qualifier, results are. A 16-location kiosk lift at Urbane Cafe sits next to a system-wide kitchen at Wingstop because both have real, disclosed results.
